Letterpress Work Hand Made Books Ask me anything
Letterpressed quotation, taken from a phrase used by Nye Bevan at the end of his speeches.
To form part of a set of wise words in letterpress form - more to follow. Printed by hand on Crane’s Lettra 100% Cotton card, using Granby font in metal type - this font is very closely based on the Edward Johnston typeface used by London Underground.
Bevan, a well-known socialist, is best known for being the founder of the modern welfare state and the National Health Service after World War II. The phrase has since been linked to the concept that there are no universal truths. Instead there are only personal truths that we must respect.
Bevan was born in Tredegar in Wales in 1897, the son of a miner. Through his own determination and effort, he became one of the most important ministers in the 1945-1951 Labour government. He died in 1960.
